7 Neurodiversity Affirming Play Tips You Can Use Today!
The connection is the intervention :)
1. Go big. Use high affect (big facial & body expression) with low-arousal kids, or anyone who needs a little extra spark to connect.
2. The power of the pause… …. ….. Hold it longer than feels comfortable. See what happens.
3. Offer real choices. Let them decide, or bring their own ideas (Ie I mix it up, sometimes my whole therapy bag, sometimes one sensory toy)
4. Mix in music & movement often
5. Follow the child’s lead mindfully & reflectively.
6. Presume competence. Always
7. Play with sound. Vocal play, imitation, and fun sound variations, especially with non-speaking kiddos.
I will coach these throughout sessions and virtually if that is best for you.
